Marijuana legalization advocates have their eyes on the final frontiers of full prohibition.
Only two states Nebraska and Idaho have never passed any sort of medical marijuana law. There are now movements afoot in both states as well as several others with very restrictive programs to change that as soon as this year.
If the medical marijuana campaigns prevail in those last remaining holdouts, the U.S. could reach a dubious distinction: Cannabis policies in every single state would be in violation of federal law. That’s certain to further ratchet up pressure on Congress and the White House to loosen federal marijuana restrictions, and it could fuel the push to make recreational cannabis legal everywhere

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) On Tuesday, a former Lincoln Police officer was cited for third-degree-assault after an incident occurred while working off-duty at a local hospital.
Lincoln Police Chief Brian Jackson said Wednesday morning that Benjamin Rieker had been an officer for 18 months before resigning on Jan. 26 for policy violations.
While working in an off-duty capacity at Bryan West hospital, a disturbance occurred that led to Rieker assaulting a man while he was leaving the hospital, according to Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner.
The disturbance occurred on October 31, 2020, and then police chief Jeff Bliemeister was made aware of the incident on Nov. 12, and placed Rieker on an unpaid leave of absence from the department, and called for an internal investigation.
Officer who since has resigned ticketed for alleged assault while working off-duty
Benjamin D. Rieker resigned Jan. 26 for policy violations, acting Police Chief Brian Jackson said.
Rieker, 32, had gone through the Lincoln Police Department’s Recruit Academy and been an officer for about a year and a half.
Jackson said the investigation stemmed from a disturbance and possible excessive use of control. Then-Chief Jeff Bliemeister learned of the allegation Nov. 12 and ordered an investigation by the department’s internal affairs unit.
“The investigation revealed department policy violations as well as a potential criminal offense,” Jackson said at a news conference Wednesday.
