Mother Nature threw everything at Saskatchewan in May from record heat to widespread frost.
The average monthly temperature was only about one degree below normal at 10.1 degrees Celsius. Key Lake in northern Saskatchewan had an average temperature four degrees below normal, making it the third coldest in 45 years.
Saskatoon still had below average May precipitation totals, even with the welcome rain over the Victoria Day long weekend.
“We came in with 35.5 millimetres compared to the average of 43 millimetres,” said Terri Lang, the warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada. “It was the 55th wettest (of 123 years) but I don’t think anyone would call it wet by any stretch.”
