LLRIB mourns passing of respected Elder

After a long battle with cancer, Elder Tom Charles has passed away. In a media release issued May 26 from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band and Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations, it was announced Charles passed away Tuesday. Chief Tammy Cook-Searson said the community and leadership is in mourning after losing a very respected and admired Elder. “His spiritual gifts helped him through 293 search and rescue efforts, only 15 of which went unsolved,” Cook-Searson said. “Tracker Tom would drop everything he was doing when called upon for any search, in any condition, in any part of the province, whether he knew the person or not. That’s who he was. He loved to help everyone, and he brought closure and healing to so many families with his gifts and compassion.”

La Ronge RCMP respond to altercation complaint, heard gunshots on arrival

It was a busy night Saturday for local police after responding to a complaint of two adult males in an altercation with bladed weapons reportedly involved. That’s according to a media release from La Ronge RCMP, which stated police responded to the call May 22 around 9:40 p.m. Officers attended to an apartment building on the 300 block of Mikisiw Drive in Far Reserve. Upon arrival, police officers heard gunshots from an unknown direction. The La Ronge General Investigation Section and RCMP Emergency Response Team were also called to assist. To ensure public safety, residents in nearby apartments were asked to leave while the incident was ongoing.

Police draw guns near Air Ronge

Police near La Ronge responded to a serious incident Saturday night in which RCMP officers drew their weapons. It was in response to an incident at the Pine Apartments in Far Reserve, just south of Air Ronge. larongeNOW reporter Derek Cornet, who was at the scene, said the matter began around 9:50 p.m.. RCMP rushed from a check stop set up at the Montreal River Bridge in Air Ronge. Police were photographed with their guns raised and RCMP entered the apartments.
