Three Twin Lakes students receive teaching scholarships from state

Listen to this article MONTICELLO — The Indiana Commission for Higher Education has awarded 200 scholarships to the fifth class of Next Generation Hoosier Educators. And three of them attend Twin Lakes High School. Selected through a competitive process based on academic achievement and other factors, Grace Fry, Taylor Hodgen and Jenna Swaim will each receive $7,500 annually (up to $30,000 total) for committing to teach in Indiana for at least five years after graduating college. “Hard work, passion and academic excellence are just a few characteristics of these future teachers,” said Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education Teresa Lubbers. “We are pleased to award them with a scholarship as they pursue their teaching credentials that will ultimately benefit their students and the state.”

SOFTBALL: Twin Lakes sweeps Rensselaer, Frontier swept by Lewis Cass

Listen to this article MONTICELLO — The lack of drama Twin Lakes’ softball team provided Saturday during the first game of a doubleheader with rival Rensselaer they more than made up for in the nightcap. Lilly Foster broke a 9-9 tie in the sixth with a run-scoring single to center and Olivia Crawn blasted a three-run homer to left, propelling a seven-run sixth inning as the Twin Lakes earned a sweep of the Bombers. Crawn finished the game going 2-for-4 with a double, home run and six RBIs. Lilly Foster picked up two singles, a double and a triple with two RBIs and two runs scored in four at-bats, and Taylor Hodgen singled and doubled with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Four White County students honored with DAR Good Citizen awards

Listen to this article WHITE COUNTY — Four students representing each of White County’s high schools have been named winners of “Good Citizen” awards by the Wea-Lea Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Those students are Brayden Buschman, of North White; Taylor Hodgen, of Twin Lakes; Thomas Tullius, of Frontier; and Bryce Poindexter, of Tri-County. Because of the ongoing COVID-19 health emergency, the Wea-Lea DAR was unable to conduct its traditional awards dinner; however, each winner was honored with certificates, lapel pins and a monetary gift. The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private schools.
