The district s board of education addressed how many of the food workers have been leaving after only working there for just a few months.
While their recruitment efforts have been successful, the district finds few employees staying later on. One of the reasons is when people are hired, they usually have to wait two months to even get a paycheck, said Debbie Nash, cafeteria leader at Highland Park Elementary School.
The cafeteria workers begin in August, when the school year starts, but Nash said they don t receive a check until September.
Nash said the pay is also a factor into why people leave so quickly. The average D60 food worker makes about $14.10 per hour.
