Whanganui man Kevin “Kastro” Ratana was fatally shot in August 2018. The facts Kuru admitted in relation to his involvement in Ratana’s death cannot be fully reported as multiple defendants are awaiting trial. One other defendant, Hikitia Rawiri Hakaraia, also known as Hikitia Box, was sentenced in June for Ratana’s manslaughter. Ratana’s partner Wairoa Herewini said she was alone, hurting and trying to be a good mother, but that was hard when the children awoke screaming about what happened. “How the actions of a few in a short space [of time].took [Ratana] away.” She had moved house countless times since Ratana’s death as it was difficult to feel safe anywhere.

A man found the body of his 36-year-old son in a pool of blood and positioned almost like he was trying to crawl away from something, a court has heard.
James Switez-Glowacz died from haemorrhaging, having been stabbed eight times in his head and body days before his body was found in February 2018.
His former wife Emily Jane Tracey, 38, and another man she also had a relationship with - 37-year-old Paul Mathew Moore - are standing trial each charged with one count of murder.

A Parole Board report detailing its decision to not release him said the assessment referred to Henson’s previous similar offending in Australia in the early 1990s, for which he was also jailed. “The psychologist assessed MrHenson as falling in a group of offenders who pose a medium to high risk of sexually reoffending,” the board said. The assessment concluded Henson should attend a child sex offender treatment programme. Before that, individual work with a psychologist might be required to prepare Henson for the Kia Marama Programme for sex offenders. Henson s lawyer Debbie Goodlet told the board he was committed to understanding more about what made him offend.
