Wilmington reacts to Derek Chauvin verdict in George Floyd s death

Sonya Patrick spent many days last summer protesting George Floyd s killing. I was very much concerned before the verdict for Derek Chauvin was announced, said the Wilmington chapter of Black Lives Matter leader, that he would not be convicted. I m glad he was found guilty on all counts. But I still think (the charges should have included) first degree murder. Chauvin leaving the courthouse in handcuffs spread quickly on social media. His bail was revoked and he was immediately remanded into custody until his sentencing hearing. In a news release soon after the verdict was read, Wilmington Police Chief Donny Williams noted communities across the country were responding to the news. He encouraged the community to pray for the men and woman of the Wilmington Police Department as they serve the area, and thanked the community for their support as they strive to make Wilmington a safe place for everyone.

Retailer Anthropologie opens in Gainesville Wednesday

Anthropologie, a retailer that offers bohemian and chic women’s clothing and accessories, along with home decor and furniture, opens officially Wednesday in Butler Town Center.  Butler Enterprises first announced the retailer would come to the shopping center early last March, with a fall 2020 opening planned.  The shop, at 2850 SW 35th Drive, encompasses 9,000 square feet beside the Noire nail salon and across from the Cheesecake Factory restaurant.  Mary Reichardt, vice president of marketing for Butler Enterprises, said the COVID-19 pandemic caused delays in the opening because retailers at the time were busy weighing decisions on whether to remain open or close down for a period of time.
