A convicted murderer from Portland was accused on Monday afternoon of slaying a man near Jefferson on or about Dec. 5.
Phillip Henry Gurule, 59, was charged with first-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm in Linn County Circuit Court.
Richard Anderson, 41, of Portland, was found shot multiple times on a property in the 38000 block of Densmore Road at about 1:12 p.m. on Dec. 5.
Court paperwork states that shards of tinted glass, found underneath Andersonâs body, and Guruleâs cellular phone data helped link him to the killing. When Gurule was arrested at a Portland residence last week, a wallet containing cards in the name of Anderson were found as well as handgun ammunition consistent with shells discovered at the crime scene, according to a probable cause affidavit in the case.

JEFFERSON, Ore. – An arrest has been made in connection with a murder in Jefferson earlier this month.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office said Phillip Gurule, 59, of Portland is accused of killing Richard Anderson, 41, of Springfield.
Anderson was found dead on a property in the 38000 block of Densmore Road on Dec. 5.
Detectives developed a timeline of Anderson’s last days, and Portland’s SWAT team assisted with two search warrants in the Portland area one in the 7400 block of SE Henry Place and the other in the 700 block of SW 11th Avenue.

Deputies from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect in the killing of a Portland man who was found dead outside of Salem earlier this month, officials said Monday.
Phillip Henry Gurule, 59, was taken into custody on suspicion of first degree murder, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
On Dec. 5, deputies responded to reports of a body found in the 38000 block of Densmore Road, near Jefferson. They identified the victim as Richard Anderson, 41, of Portland.
Investigators worked to develop a timeline of Anderson’s activities and, after serving two search warrants in Portland, identified Gurule as a suspect.
