Providence Police arrested a man with a loaded weapon and no license to carry at a Black Lives Matter rally on Wednesday night.
Police had been posted at Providence Place Mall for the rally taking place at the State House, when shortly after 7:30 PM a woman approached them to say a subject in the crowd had a firearm in his waistband.
Police observed the subject she pointed out walking towards them from the State House lawn. The subject, later identified as Dennis Torres, then crossed Francis Street where police approached him.
According to police, officers immediately grabbed hold of Torres and informed him it was reported that he was in possession of a firearm, at which time Torres stated he was.

The Providence police arrested an East Providence man who they say was carrying a handgun at a State House protest Wednesday night.
Dennis Torres, 31, of Riverside, was carrying a loaded 9mm pistol when he was arrested at 7:30 p.m., according to Commander Thomas Verdi.
At a State House protest over the killing of Daunte Wright in Minnesota, a demonstrator approached the police and said they believed Torres was carrying a firearm, Verdi said.
The police watched Torres as he crossed Francis Street from the State House lawn and arrested him on Hayes Street across from the Cheesecake Factory, according to Verdi.

(Providence, RI) A man was arrested for carrying an unlicensed gun during a rally at the Rhode Island Island State House Wednesday, which was held in connection to the shooting of a black man by a police officer in Minnesota this week. Dennis Torres of Riverside was carrying a loaded handgun, according to the Providence Police Department. No other issues were reported at the rally at the Capitol, which was organized by the Black Lives Matter Rhode Island Political Action Committee.
