Updated: 6:25 PM EDT Jul 19, 2021 A mechanic was killed Monday afternoon when a vehicle he was working on fell on top of him, according to Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler.Fowler said Jamel DeShaun Norman, 31, of Pauline, died at a home on Ford Road, in Gaffney, while working as a mobile auto mechanic.Norman was working in the driveway under a Ford Explorer about 3 p.m. when the SUV rolled off the ramps the front wheels were on, Fowler said.He said Norman was pinned between the front axle and concrete driveway. A friend inside the home called 911 after discovering him under the vehicle, Fowler said.Norman was pronounced dead at the scene, Fowler said.Fowler said no foul play is suspected and an autopsy will be performed.

It happened around 3:20 p.m. Thursday in a single-lane “chute” that diverts traffic around a construction project, Fowler said.
