Anne Feeney remembered
On February 3, legendary folksinger and labor activist Anne Feeney died of COVID-19 pneumonia at the age of sixty-nine. Feeney was a skilled singer and organizer in the musical tradition of Joe Hill and Pete Seeger, and the labor movement tradition of Eugene Debs, Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, and Mother Jones. In 2015, she performed in the centennial celebrations of labor singer Joe Hill. Feeney’s songs like “Have You Been to Jail for Justice” inspired activists and fueled protests.
CANCELED: Kites on Mendota

UPDATE from Clean Lakes Alliance: Unfortunately, with recent weather alerts warning about inclement weather due to extremely cold temperatures, Kites On Mendota is officially canceled. (Saturday and Sunday, February 6th & 7th).
We are very thankful to our partners and supporters: The Edgewater, Wisconsin Union, EZ Office Products, Wisconsin Kiters Club, and Seven Hills Skydiving Club.
Enough room for social distancing is not a problem when your venue is a frozen Lake Mendota. It s like, hey, where did this big treeless park come from? Kites on Mendota will feature 20 large show kites, plus skydivers with colorful parachutes from the Seven Hills Skydiving Club will be making ice landings throughout the day on Saturday. It s all a benefit for the Clean Lakes Alliance and, also, something different to do. Kites on Mendota hopes to raise $1,000 per kite in the sky, with a $20,000 goal; donatio
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin winters can be brutal, especially if you don’t like to be outside in all the elements. For one area man, though, it’s what he’s made a career out of.
We’re talking about Warren Lyerly, but everyone calls him “Junior.” You’ll see the Madison native most days at Tenney Park.
“I enjoy what I do, and I love what I do,” Lyerly said.
In the winter, that means tending to the ice rinks, but if you think this is an easy job, think again.
“I’ve fallen through before and never touched bottom,” he explained. “It’s kind of a nerve-racking thing, but the days go by really fast, and it’s really rewarding at the end of the day.”
