Credit:SMH Archives Mr. Andrew Barton Paterson, better known throughout Australia as “Banjo” Paterson, died at a private hospital, in Sydney, yesterday afternoon, after about a fortnight’s illness. Mr. Paterson was a prolific writer of light topical verse. His ballads of the bush had enormous popularity. He was in his 77th year. “Banjo” Paterson was born at Narrambla, and passed his earliest years at Buckinbah, near Obley, on an unfenced block of dingo infested country leased by his father and uncle from the Crown. When he was six, the family moved to Illalong, a day’s ride from Lambing Flat diggings, where Young now stands.

Minerals explorer Thomson Resources today reported the advancement of its precious and base metals projects in Queensland and New South Wales. Thomson advised it has completed due diligence at the Hortons Gold Project near Tenterfield, New South Wales. It’s acquiring the project from Syndicate Minerals, a private company. According to the release, Hortons has “multiple intrusion related gold targets across multiple prospects” for future drilling.

Lismore MP Janelle Saffin said she was working with the Tenterfield Shire Council to ensure sealing the final 7.11-kilometre gravel section of Mount Lindesay Road is achieved. Ms Saffin said she is pushing to get the project more economic stimulus funding to help local communities recover from the impacts of drought, bushfires and the ongoing challenges of COVID-19. There are significant cross-border tourism benefits which would flow from having a fully sealed road link between Tenterfield, the birthplace of Federation, and Brisbane and surrounds, Ms Saffin said.
