Youngsters want Santa to bring an end to covid-19 Children s top wishes: lots of toys and no more covid!

They miss extended family, especially grandparents. They miss playing with friends and they miss sport and all their other normal activities. Crosscanonby St John’s Church of England School, in the village of Crosby, reflects all those themes: Tom Gyles, 11, said: “I wish for a snowy Christmas! And also for my football to be back on because I really miss it!”

While Christmas is set to be very different this year, one thing that does not change is the need to be mindful of festive opening times, and changes to local services. Council-run services such as rubbish and recycling collections will be temporarily altered for the next two weeks as a result of the festivities, and supermarkets and other shops will operate different opening hours to normal. Here is a round-up of some of the key changes over this festive period. Supermarkets: The Carlisle, Penrith, Workington and Whitehaven branches of Morrisons will be open until midnight today and tomorrow. They will close at 6pm on Christmas Eve, and will be closed for Christmas Day.
