National Toll: Four Police Officers Shot, Killed, in Less than 24 Hours

Four police officers were shot and killed during a time-frame of less than 24-hours stretching from Monday evening into Tuesday morning.
The deceased law enforcement personnel–a combination of officers and deputies–were shot in three different incidents which occurred in California and Texas.
KSBY reports detective Luca Benedetti was gunned down in San Luis Obispo, California, Monday around 5 p.m. Pacific Time, while serving a search warrant.
Thirty-seven-year-old Benedetti was met with gunfire and fatally wounded as he entered the suspect’s apartment.
Shortly thereafter, at 8:40 p.m. Central Time, two sheriff’s deputies in Concho County, Texas, were shot and killed while responding to a dog complaint.

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - Two men were killed after part of a crane fell on their pickup truck as it traveled on Interstate 10 in Southeast Texas, according to authorities.
The truck was traveling westbound on I-10 just southwest of Beaumont when the crane experienced “some type of malfunction” and collapsed on the vehicle around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a statement.
The crane was part of equipment being used by crews working on a construction project on I-10.

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - Two men were killed after part of a crane fell on their pickup truck as it traveled on Interstate 10 in Southeast Texas, according to authorities.
The truck was traveling westbound on I-10 just southwest of Beaumont when the crane experienced some type of malfunction and collapsed on the vehicle around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a statement.
Two men in the truck were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Texas Department of Public Safety identified the two as 37-year-old Sarfaraz Karowadia, who was the driver, and 42-year-old Altaf Kasowadia. Both men were from the Houston suburb of Friendswood.
One man was taken into police custody Wednesday evening hours after initiating a standoff with Harker Heights police officers attempting to serve an arrest warrant.
The alleged suspect barricaded himself inside his home in the 300 block of East Cardinal Lane, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Washko.

SALADO â A Harker Heights man was killed Thursday morning in a multi-vehicle crash near Salado High School, authorities said.
Michael Scott Schmidt, 63, died from his injuries at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center â Temple, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Washko said.
The incident occurred at about 7:34 a.m. at the intersection FM 2484 and Lark Trail, about a block east of Salado High.
Schmidt was driving a 2016 BMW X3 sedan east on FM 2484 when he failed to control speed and collided with the rear of 2015 Western Star tractor-trailer that had stopped on the road to turn onto Lark Trail, Washko said.
