City to hire engineer to address Dekker Centre roof

City manager Randy Patrick said they want to bring in an engineer who “can actually make sure we’re doing the right thing on that roof,” said Patrick, so there are no further problems later on. Patrick indicated that the issue with the roof is that it is flat and needs to have an angle to it. Council voted in favor of hiring the engineer, with councillor Kent Lindgren saying it was “fairly prudent” of the city to do this work, “considering the history of the CUplex and the challenges that have been faced out there since the beginning of that”.

The end of the COVID-19 nightmare is in sight

There isn’t much to say about it, really. On the day that I went, there was no lineup to speak of and I was in and out of there so fast that I completely forgot that I was supposed to do a “first person” story on the whole experience one where I could de-mystify the vaccine experience for you at home. Sorry, but it was pretty standard stuff. I got vaccinated, and then I went home. And frankly, I don’t want to make that big a deal of it, given the fact that so many readers out there seem to want to get into fistfights on social media over vaccines. Everyone is free to decide for themselves, this is a free country. 

Mayor sticks it to COVID

City of North Battleford Mayor David Gillan received the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine at the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts, on Wednesday, April 21. The vaccine clinic is being run by the Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs Inc. (BATC) in association with Indigenous Services Canada and the Saskatchewan Health Authority. “Stick it to COVID” proclaimed Mayor Gillan as he received his vaccine. “As soon as you are eligible for the vaccine, I encourage everyone to book their appointment and get the first available vaccine,” added the Mayor. Festival winds up with piano entries: gala available online

Piano adjudicator, Janet Tieckur, grew up in rural Saskatchewan  After completing music degrees from Prairie Bible College and the Royal Conservatory of Music, she has had her compositions performed at many concerts, new music festivals and on CBC radio. Her pedagogical compositions are now listed on many different syllabi across the country. Passionate about sharing music with those in her community and beyond, Tieckur is a member of the Alliance for Canadian New Music Projects and the Saskatchewan Registered Music Teachers’ Association. Vocal sessions concluded April 20at the Dekker Centre with vocal adjudicator, Chris Kelly. Kelly is originally from Prince Albert. He earned with a double major, completing performance and academic requirements in both voice and piano at the University of Saskatchewan.
