Potosi Man Drowns In Mississippi River

A rural Potosi man is dead after drowning in the Mississippi River on Saturday. According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, 63-year-old Mitchell Hochhausen was with his wife and two grandchildren on a sand beach island about a mile north of the Potosi Point. At around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, emergency crews were called for a possible drowning. Officials say Hochhausen swam into the river to retrieve an item that had floated away from the group. As he turned to swim back towards his family, witnesses say Hochhausen went under the water’s surface. About four hours after authorities were initially contacted, search and rescue crews located his body. He was pronounced dead at a nearby boat landing. The sheriff’s report says Hochhausen was in about six feet of water at the time he was pulled under. Several agencies from Iowa and Wisconsin assisted in the search and rescue efforts.

Three People Injured in Two Vehicle Crash

By Mark Evenstad May 20, 2021 | 11:52 AM Three people were injured in a two-vehicle, rollover crash on Dodge Street in Dubuque Wednesday afternoon. Dubuque Police say the crash happened at about 3:20 p.m. on Dodge between University Avenue and Devon Drive. The vehicle that rolled over came to rest in the grass in front of Los Aztecas restaurant. The  names of the persons in the crash have not yet been released. 

Man Arrested After Apparent Stabbing Incident

By Mark Evenstad May 20, 2021 | 11:49 AM Dubuque police arrested a man for an apparent stabbing Wednesday. 44 year old Christopher Smith was arrested on charges of carrying weapons, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police detained Smith on Lincoln Avenue after he was recognized as a man who was in the area of an attempted robbery on Lincoln Street. at about 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, during which a knife was used to injure a person. Police report that Smith had a “double-edged dagger” in one of his back pants pockets as well as marijuana and a pipe in another pocket, prompting his arrest. 

Richland Center Man Busted For Drugs In Iowa County

A Richland Center man is facing multiple charges after authorities found drugs in his vehicle during a traffic stop. According to an Iowa County sheriffs office report, 48 year old Curtis Salisbury was pulled over around 4pm Saturday in the village of Avoca. Deputies arrested Salisbury on charges of 4th offense operating with a controlled substance, along with a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia related to the manufacturing or storage of meth. He was also arrested on a probation hold through the Wisconsin department of corrections. Salisbury was taken to the Iowa County jail where he remains in custody.
