On Oct. 1, CPS Energy will begin disconnecting residential customers who are behind on their power bills and haven’t worked out payment plans with the city-owned utility.
Monday’s announcement came 16 months after the utility at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily stopped cutting off power to households that are behind on their electric and gas bills.

SAN ANTONIO CPS Energy announced Monday it will take a tiered approach to resuming disconnections. Power shut offs have been on hold since March 2020 because of the pandemic.
More than 70,000 residential customers, which is about 35 percent of customers, are at risk to have their power turned off. The average past due bill is $602. CPS Energy said residential customers eligible for disconnect owed a total of $61.8 million.

SAN ANTONIO There are more than a few customers behind on their power bill. CPS Energy says 73,133 residential customers are eligible for disconnects. Many of those customers owe on average $600. Schemers are taking advantage by calling saying they will disconnect your power if you do not pay, but it can look like your power provider is really on the line.

Despite
hotter-than-normal summer temperatures in the forecast, private electricity companies are pressuring the Public Utility Commission of Texas, or PUC, to allow power shutoffs for people who haven’t paid their bills.
Many Texans are behind on electricity bills: nearly 170,000 in San Antonio and about 50,000 in Austin areas where electricity is provided by city-owned utilities. The average past-due amount is about $600.
NRG and Vistra the massive conglomerates whose subsidiaries dominate the state’s deregulated electricity market, which includes Houston and Dallas did not answer TPR s questions about how many of their customers owe money.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas You probably got a letter from CPS Energy showing your credit from not having power during the winter blast. It shows most of us are getting an $8.75 credit. That is the Electric Service Availability Charge. It is what you pay each month to have service and many of us did not have power for some period of time. Yet, CPS Energy said if you were without power for 48 hours or more during the five-day winter storm period, you would get another credit of $50 to $100. Yet, many of us are not seeing any extra money.
