Man who skipped bail 13 years ago when he was caught with almost €1 million worth of drugs is jailed

A man who skipped bail and fled to Spain 13 years ago after he was caught with almost €1 million worth of drugs has been jailed for nine years.
Joseph Daly (54) left Ireland months after he pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to having a stash of cocaine and heroin with a total value of €995,850 at his then home, on Glenamuck Road in Carrickmines on November 22, 2007.
A European arrest warrant was issued in 2008 but it was not executed until this April after he spent three years in a Spanish jail when he was caught with €190,0000 worth of cannabis herb.

A SOLICITOR IMPACTED by the effects of the drug Thalidomide who fraudulently claimed over €120,000 in social welfare payments will begin a jail term next week.
Herbert Kilcline (60) told gardaí after the fraud came to light that he felt he was entitled to the payments because he had been excluded from compensatory payments made to victims of birth defects caused by the Thalidomide drug. He has since repaid the money in full.

Kilcline told gardai: “I admit it was wrong, no matter how aggrieved I felt. It wasn t the right way to deal with my grievance.”.
