There is a new shelter for men over 19 with substance addiction in Prince Edward Island.
The provincial government has relocated addiction services offered at Deacon House to Smith Lodge at 35 Weymouth St. in Charlottetown. Smith Lodge was initially used as a shelter for men and women experiencing homelessness.
Back in March, Liberal MLA Gord McNeilly blamed the provincial government for neglecting addiction services on P.E.I., pointing to Deacon House in particular.

ELLISVILLE, Miss. (WDAM) - “April showers bring May flowers,” but the Ellisville Garden Club brings them year-round.
“Our main mission is gardening education,” said Elizabeth Barnes, president of the garden club. “Trying to get the community involved in gardening through the work that we do around the community and then being a help wherever we can to improve the city.”
Barnes says the group of volunteers do several beautification projects around the city of Ellisville.

A Liberal MLA on P.E.I. says there is government neglect in addiction services in the province. I won t dwell on each one, but I ll point out one, said Gordon McNeilly in the legislature Friday. Absolute neglect of Deacon House. I recently visited Deacon House and had an opportunity to tour the shelter.
Deacon House is an emergency shelter in Charlottetown for men dealing with addiction.
The shelter is managed by Health PEI, McNeilly said.
In the legislature Friday, McNeilly asked P.E.I. Premier Dennis King to apologize for the level of neglect at the facility for men dealing with addiction.(Legislative Assembly of P.E.I.)
