Gainesville Girls Rock Camp creates a safe space for girls and gender-expansive youth

After the COVID-19 pandemic turned down the volume on live-music events last year, Gainesville Girls Rock Camp (GGRC) will be jamming out in person for its 2021 summer session.
The week-long camp, held from July 26 to July 31, is dedicated to teaching regional youths ages 10-17 how to play instruments individually and together in bands. As a chapter of the international Girls Rock Camp Alliance, GGRC actively works to dismantle racism, sexism, homophobia and other discriminatory behaviors and expressions.

TUCSON (KVOA) - As more Americans get the COVID-19 vaccine, more people are reporting side effects from the shot.
Some of them have been quite serious. However, some of those side effects are not always a bad thing. I got super, super tired, Dee Collins said. I had like chronic fatigue, I had chills, I had body aches. And then I was feeling so bad I decided to take my temperature and I had a fever of 101.5 (degrees).
Collins had the second dose of the Moderna vaccine on March 26. She says it hit her pretty hard. However, she experienced a side effect that she was not expecting.

The position runs from 6/1/2021 through 12/31/2021. The global pandemic resulted in the temporary closing of the Cass Commons, a vital community resource. The closure of the Commons also caused a precipitous drop in revenue. In spite of these obstacles, the EMEAC team put young activists going door to door in several neglected neighborhoods of Detroit’s Black community where they were trained, delivered important community education and worked to Get Out The Vote. This dual foundation the liberated space we call the Commons nurturing and creating community and outreach work are critical additions to EMEAC’s environmental justice and educational projects, expanding and deepening EMEAC’s place in the struggle for community empowerment.
