There were excellent plays, such as a Deonte Billups no-look pass in the paint to Dylan Carl for an early layup, and Bobby Planutis’ thunderous dunk late in the second half tonight.

The Purdue Fort Wayne men’s basketball team traded possession of momentum all game with Illinois-Chicago. More interestingly, and as expected, PFW’s Jarred Godfrey and UIC’s Teyvion Kirk went back and forth with masterful playmaking from the point guard positions.
Ultimately, Godfrey and the Mastodons emerged victorious.
Godfrey, a senior, had a career-best 41 points and PFW won 96-89 in overtime at the Gates Center, where the teams will meet again Saturday.
Godfrey’s previous career best was 28 points. He had three straight field goals – all off drives through the paint – to cement the overtime run for PFW. He finished 13 of 24 from the field with nine rebounds and four assists.

The teams meet again here 5 p.m. Sunday, when the Mastodons will have to sharpen up their defense.
PFW falls to Cleveland State in Horizon debut
VICTORIA JACOBSEN | The Journal Gazette
The Mastodons made it dramatic in the final seconds, but Purdue Fort Wayne s first conference game as a member of the Horizon League ended in disappointment with a 63-61 loss to Cleveland State.
PFW trailed by five points with 6 seconds remaining, but when the Vikings tried to heave the ball across the court on the in-bounds play it was caught by Jarred Godfrey, who was fouled as he went up for the 3-point shot. He hit all three free throws to cut Cleveland State s lead to 63-61.
