Around 20,000 gallons of untreated wastewater discharged from Gibsonville s wastewater treatment system.
The spill happened earlier in the week, on Wednesday. The discharge happened at the pump station on Amick Road. The force main rupture was located at the intersection of Elon and Ossipee roads.
The untreated wastewater was discharged into Travis Creek. Travis Creek is part of the Haw River Basin.
The Division of Water Resources was notified on the day of the incident. They are currently investigating the incident. For more information on the incident, call the town of Gibsonville at 336-449-7188.

A Greenwood man poured money he was supposed to be investing in a new trucking company into a Center Grove-area horse farm and himself, a federal indictment alleges.
Daniel R. Fruits, 46, is charged with 10 counts of wire fraud, six counts of money laundering, two counts of making false statements to a federally insured bank and a count of mail fraud, according to a grand jury indictment filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. The indictment was unsealed Dec. 11, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the charges Thursday.
