PROVO By any account, either blue-goggled or shades of envy, BYU s 2020 football season was unlike any other.
From playing in a global pandemic while other programs were planning to push to the spring, to finishing ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 for the first time since 2009, there has been no other season quite like 2020.
The Cougars traveled from coast to coast, built up several rivalries and established new ones, as they were at one point the only team competing in college football located west of El Paso, looking for games and trying to garner national respect. Along the way, they found a way, thanks in large part to its mantra: any team, any time, any place or at least, anyone that was willing to play amid several layers of COVID-19 restrictions.
SALT LAKE CITY The 2020 BYU football season has come to a close and it s one to remember for the wins, the loss, the strange circumstances and the Heisman dark horse.
But one thing that will be remembered above all is the dominant bowl performance where the Cougars took on the Knights of UCF and owned every portion of the game, from kickoff to the final whistle.
BYU convincingly beat the Knights 49-23 in the RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl Tuesday night, and here are three things we learned about the Cougars from the matchup:

BYU s final win of a mostly spectacular 11-1 season via a 49-23 win over UCF in the Boca Raton Bowl was won, marvelled and punctuated with a dominant offensive performance, a record-setting routine from a one-time Heisman Trophy dark horse in Zach Wilson who led the Cougars for 87 yards on five plays over the opening 1 minute, 49 seconds for a touchdown and never let up.
No one will take away the performance of Zach Wilson, the junior quarterback from Corner Canyon who cemented himself as a bonafide NFL prospect with 425 passing yards and three touchdowns against the Knights (6-4), leading No. 16 BYU to an 11-1 record, its first one-loss season with double-digit wins since 1996.
He remembers taking a seat in a chair opposite his coach.
But he doesn t remember much after that: just tears, hugging and a lot of emotions.
This week, Griffitts, a senior tight end and fullback, was finally rewarded with a scholarship from the BYU football program. In most years, such an announcement would ve been made in front of the team, after practice or a game, and the 100-plus members of the Cougars would jump and hoot and holler as they smothered Griffitts.
This year, there was none of that, largely because of COVID-19 precautions and social distancing measures designed to keep players and coaches apart as much as possible.
