This bird species was named after the historical and geographical region of Dauria, which unites Buryatia, the Trans-Baikal Territory, the Amur Region, parts of Mongolia and China. The hatchling is planned to be reintroduced into the wild in the future.
The Daurian crane young hatched at the Reproduction of Rare Animal Species Center of the Moscow Zoo near Volokolamsk. This species is listed in the International Red Book and in the Red Book of Russia. According to ornithologists, there are only about six and a half thousand Daurian cranes in the wild, of which about 600 individuals nest on the territory of our country.
