Boy, 14, badly injured by exploding firework at Vista skate park

VISTA  A firework exploded in the hands of a 14-year-old body Wednesday evening at a Vista skate park, badly injuring his hands and face, authorities said. It happened around 6:50 p.m. at the public skate park on North Santa Fe Avenue near Connecticut Avenue, according to San Diego sheriff’s Lt. Chris Lawrence. Medics airlifted the boy to UC San Diego Medical Center’s regional burn center in San Diego’s Hillcrest neighborhood, Lawrence said. The severity of the victim’s injuries was unknown, but he was expected to survive. No other details were immediately available.
