Kenya has been ranked in position 77 out of the 99 best countries to start an online business according to BestAccountingSoftware.com.
The rankings come even as e-commerce continues to grow year-on-year, with eMarketer forecasting global sales worth $6.542 trillion by 2023, accounting for 22 per cent of all retail sales (up from 14.1 per cent in 2019).
This means 2021 could be the year to start your online business.
To find out, the firm s researchers looked at 20 different categories across 99 countries.
From Gross National Income (GNI) per capita and corporate tax rates to the number of social media, internet users, and co-worker spaces by each individual country, they analysed a plethora of key areas.

UNILATERAL MOVES BY countries like France to tax technology companies create “clear and present” economic threats for Ireland, Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe has said.
A “consensus-based, globally-agreed approach” to international tax rules is needed to ensure that tax rules “evolve to match the modern world”, he told reporters today.
The minister was speaking following the publication of an update to Ireland’s corporation tax roadmap.

India, through the Finance Act 2021-21 imposed a 2% digital tax on trade and services by non-resident e-commerce players with a turnover of over 2 crores USTR slams India’s discriminatory digital taxes calls; India defends stance cites OECD report. 
New Delhi: The digital taxes levied by India on Google, Amazon and Facebook are discriminatory and are not in line with international tax norms said United States Trade Representative.
The US administration was investigating digital taxes including Equalisation Levy applied by India under section 301 of the US Trade Act, 1974.
The move paves the way for the US to impose tariffs before President Donald Trump leaves office or early in the administration of President-elect Joe Biden.

India promised “appropriate action after a US Trade Representative (USTR) investigation report said New Delhi’s 2% tax on the digital economy is “unreasonable or discriminatory , potentially attracting withdrawal of US trade concessions or duties on Indian exports. The tax, called equalization levy, came into force in April 2020.
