18/12/2020 - Gero von Boehm signs his name to a fascinating documentary about a controversial figure in the history of fashion photography, typical of the paradoxes of creativity
A voyeur? An aesthete? A pervert? An anarchist? A sexist? A subversive? A misogynist? Known for his photos of statuesque, provocative, domineering women and an international fashion magazine star for almost three decades,
Helmut Newton, who was born in Berlin in 1920 and who died in Los Angeles in 2004, availed himself of an array of fantasy-based imagery in his work, rooted in nudity and rather trashy situations which make for uncomfortable viewing in today’s #MeToo era, but which were also a source of controversy back at the height of his fame. But it’s nonetheless necessary to prove these acts are taking place in order to denounce them to maximum effect and to try to bring the practice to an end (given that dogged denial is, unfortunately, common currency). Irrefutable evidence is required in order to turn a blinding spotlight on the perpetrators.

Traffic snarl-ups, the continual rumbling of engines, roundabouts in abundance, bypasses which lead to the depopulation of town centres, sprawling shopping centres… it reminds me of an anthill. All these places which we’ve grown up with and which gradually become a part of us. Fast food restaurants, ridiculously expensive clothes brands… When you’re 17-years-old, your view on major planning projects and their impact on your future within your immediate environment is anything but clear, especially when you live in an area on the outskirts of Paris which is both economically disadvantaged and decimated by the press. It is this growing awareness, this awakening of the younger generation, which is examined in
14/12/2020 - Stéphanie Pillonca explores the topic of adoption from four points of view in this highly emotive documentary where the past, the present and the future meld together to form a child I feel really alone and I keep my mouth shut when I see that storks are dropping babies all around me, that they’ve passed by this way. I want to scream, I feel like crying, I throw my arms around your neck. What do other people do? What do they have that we don’t? Spoken by one the film’s protagonists, these words from the song
