Strides towards inclusion are strutted across catwalks and behind the seams. The fashion industry has faced ongoing criticism surrounding it’s lack of recognition and support for Black designers, but in the last few years we’ve witnessed gradual progress. As New York Fashion Week kicks off Sunday, more than 20 Black designers are scheduled to showcase their creations household, and emerging names alike.

The teachers union has argued that instructors shouldn’t be required to come back to the classroom until they are vaccinated, but the city and other health jurisdictions has limited supply of the vaccine and other priority groups who are in line to get the doses.
Mayor Robert Garcia said at a media briefing Thursday that the city would ensure that teachers of younger grades are vaccinated, starting with pre-K through second next week and third- through fifth-grades “soon after.”
“I want to give assurances that all teachers will get vaccinated,” Garcia said. “Educators know that we are here to support them.”

LANSING Today, the Whitmer Administration announced promotions and new staff hires within the Governor’s Communications Office and Constituent Services Department.
Bobby Leddy, who previously served as the governor’s deputy press secretary, has been promoted to press secretary. Chelsea Lewis Parisio, who served as deputy press secretary, will take on a greater leadership role on the press team as chief deputy press secretary. New to the team are Samantha Kennedy, who will serve as deputy press secretary, and Chaitanya Karve who will serve as speechwriter. Within the Constituent Services Department, Rachel Plawecki has been promoted to serve as Director of Constituent Services and Ed Dichoza has been promoted to serve as Deputy Director of Constituent Services.
The reason Michigan’s website for unemployment payments crashed Monday: too many users.
That conclusion was announced after analysis of the computer glitch by the Department of Management and Budget. This marks at least the second time since the COVID pandemic struck that state computers were overwhelmed by workers seeking benefits.
Trish Pellerito of Westland said the frustration she felt Monday was familiar among unemployed workers.
“Back in March and April when everything shut down and a bunch of us lost jobs, the UIA was understaffed and overwhelmed,” she said, referring to the Unemployment Insurance Agency.
“Fast forward,” Pellerito said, “and the system is once more overwhelmed.”
