Poor patronage in both TNSTC and private buses in Erode
With new restrictions imposed by the State government came into force from Monday morning, it seemed like just another day for people in the western region.
In Salem, groceries and pharmacies restricted public entry on their premises. Only takeaway services were allowed in tea shops and other eateries.
Though restaurants were opened for takeaway services, hoteliers lamented that very a few customers turned up. Hoteliers demanded that they should be permitted at least 50% dine-in facilities. P.L. Palaniswamy, Secretary, Salem District Hotel Association, said that they are operating hotels just to keep the business running.

Practical examinations for over 38,000 Class XII students began at 322 schools in the district.
According to Education Department officials, the students were divided into batches and the examinations were held in the morning and afternoon sessions.
Chief Education Officer T. Ganesh Moorthy said each batch had 24 to 28 students and the laboratories were disinfected before and after the space was used by the students.
The temperature of students and invigilators were checked before they were allowed into the lab and the students were provided with hand-washing facilities. Wearing of mask and physical distancing were ensured among students,” he said.

Over 80 % attend the classes on the first day Over 400 schools across the district were reopened for classes 9 and Plus-One here on Monday.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, schools were closed in March 2020 and schools were reopened for classes X and Plus-Two from January 19. With drop in cases, the State government announced reopening of schools for Classes 9 and Plus-One from Monday as all the classrooms were disinfected and all precautionary measures were in place.

Over 60% students in Class X and Plus-Two attended schools that were reopened after 10 months in Erode district on Tuesday.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, schools were closed in March 2020, and the State government announced reopening of schools for these two classes adhering to standard operating procedures from January 19. On Monday, all the classrooms were disinfected and all precautionary measures were in place to ensure the safety of teachers and students.
On Tuesday, students came to school wearing masks. Thermal scanning was done and they were given hand sanitisers. They also submitted a form signed by their parents that they were sending their children to school voluntarily. Seating arrangements in classrooms were made to ensure personal distancing and instructions were given to stu
