Peter Gutwein,Premier & Treasurer Today’s data on job vacancies from the Australian Bureau of Statistics is more confirmation that Tasmania’s economy continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The data shows Tasmanian job vacancies grew by 50.4 per cent over the November 2020 quarter, which is the highest increase in the nation and double the growth seen nationally. Importantly, this growth has been led by the private sector, with vacancies increasing 53.2 per cent in the November quarter – again making Tasmania the strongest State in the nation. The ABS also confirmed an 11.6 per cent increase in engineering work completed in Tasmania in the September 2020 quarter, the highest increase in the nation.

Date Time Police continue to search Reedy Marsh area for wanted man Police are seeking public assistance to locate 47-year-old Robert Gerard who they wish to speak to in relation to a suspicious death at a Reedy Marsh residence last night. Around 6pm police were called to a house at Larcombes Road where a 69-year-old man was found deceased. The man’s death is being treated as murder and will be investigated by Launceston Criminal Investigation Branch. Police are searching Reedy Marsh and the surrounding areas for Robert and significant numbers of general duties and specialist police including members of the special operations group will be in the area. Police drones and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter have also been deployed to assist with the search.
