The program, in its 32
nd year, has recognized student-athletes since the 1989-90 school year and again this winter will honor 32 individuals from MHSAA member schools who participate in at least one sport in which the Association sponsors a postseason tournament. Farm Bureau Insurance underwrites the Scholar-Athlete Awards and will present a $1,000 scholarship to each recipient. Since the beginning of the program, 8,323 scholarships have been awarded. Scholarships will be presented proportionately by school classification, with 12 scholarships to be awarded to Class A student-athletes, six female and six male; eight scholarships will be awarded to Class B student-athletes, four female and four male; six scholarships will be awarded to Class C student-athletes, three female and three male; and four scholarships will be awarded to Class D student-athletes, two female and two male. With all the talk of Fungie going AWOL from the Dingle Peninsula it was with a sense of utter joy for local photographer Danny Ahern when he learned of a pod of the wonderful mammals near his home village of Duncannon, in Ballyhack.
Danny was invited onto Walter Foley s touring boat with Gearoid Ryan from Hook Tourism and Dylan St Ledger from Visit New Ross on a beautiful, crisp December day recently where he captured these magical shots.
Recalling the trip of a lifetime, Danny said: With a sense of explosive wow I drove across Arthurstown to Ballyhack looking left out to sea at a huge number of sea birds hovering above the blue sea. Black silhouettes of dolphins elegantly swam into the sun kissed waves while numerous trawlers worked their nets to haul the shoals of sprats. In Ballyhack harbour my right-hand fingers snapped my camera towards the dolphins while my videophone in my left hand tried to keep up.

WELLSTON Lori A. (Gene) North, 59, a resident of Wellston and formerly of Houghton, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020, at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was born on October 11, 1961, in Hancock, a daughter of Lilly (Eakin) Wiitala and the late Laurie Wiitala. Lori was raised in Houghton and was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the Class of 1979.
On October 11, 1980, she was united in marriage to Gene North. The couple had resided in Hancock, Dollar Bay and Baltic. They then resided in Kincheloe, Michigan, until 1992, when they moved to make their home in Wellston.
Lori had always been a hardworking person until her health would no longer allow her to work. She had been a direct care staff worker for Copper Country Mental Health, while she resided in the Copper Country and then also for Manistee County Mental Health. She also had worked as a waitress at various restaurants and a gas station attendant for several stations in the Manistee Cou
