On June 25 and 26, the Leon County School Board will convene a Strategic Planning Retreat. It is my focus to include discussions about the “re-imaging” of our school district to respond to critical issues of concern and challenges in our community.
At the crux of these discussions will be a conversation on remedying poverty and teenage gun violence, and identifying ways to end the workforce crisis in health care and construction trades through the educational offerings of the Leon County School District.
In September 2019, I joined the Big Bend Minority Chamber of Commerce’s founder, attorney Sean Pittman, and president, Antonio Jefferson, on a fact-finding visit to Nashville, Tennessee, to see how that school district had responded to the workforce crisis in its community.

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Board of Trustees recently approved the appointment of Yeurys Pujols as the College’s inaugural Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). The appointment will be effective July 1, 2021.
HCCC President Dr. Chris Reber recommended the appointment, in consultation with the Board of Trustees Executive Committee, based on Mr. Pujols’ leadership experience; support of the College’s nationally distinctive diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives; and feedback from many members of the College community.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â Leon County Schools is honoring the history of Florida s Emancipation Day on May 20
with enhanced curriculum and programs throughout the district.
âIt is vitally important for our students to learn and understand our shared history,â said Superintendent Rocky Hanna. âAs a former American history teacher, it gives me great pride to support this initiative in honor of this historic event.â
LCS is one of only 11 school districts recognized as an African-American History Exemplar District. This pilot program continues to build on LCSâ commitment to infuse African-American history into the curriculum throughout the school year and across many different subject areas.
