Texas winter storm relief on the way from Tuscaloosa residents

A group of Tuscaloosa area residents came together this week to collect donations that will help families in Texas affected by a devastating winter storm. Darrin Griffin, the catalyst behind the collection of donated items, is a former Texan with family members who live in the Lone Star state. He was going home to help his family with recovery efforts, but he said he learned that they had what they needed. He decided to refocus his efforts to help others less fortunate than his family. “I was planning to go to Austin to help my family, and when I realized they found aid, I then thought, I have a truck and trailer, maybe we can quickly fill it with donated supplies,” Griffin said.

Robots may be future of policing but activists warn they could be racist

Share and speak up for justice, law & order. Researchers at the University of Alabama are developing robots that would help police communicate with each other, crime suspects, and the public according to the Daily Caller. “We are hoping that our human interactive robots will make a safe environment by distancing civilians and officers from dangerous situations,” Dr. Nader Jalili, the head of mechanical engineering at the university’s college of engineering, told The Associated Press. “Someone’s perception might be limited based on the threat in front of them and having a robot might show them someone has a weapon in their hand or they’re hiding something,” said Dr. Darrin Griffin, a professor of communication studies at the university.
