Kings County Public Health will not bring a mask mandate recommendation to the Board of Supervisors unless pandemic circumstances change, according to the department.
The Kings County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously designated August 2021 as Child Support Awareness Month, National Breastfeeding Month and Valley Fever Awareness Month to raise awareness and promote public education on each topic.Â
âI donât know if weâre going to have an arm wrestling event, maybe rock paper scissors to see whoâs the king of the month of August,â said Board Chairman Craig Peterson.
Child Support Awareness Month was brought forward by the Child Support Services Department. Director Marie Waite said itâs the goal of the department to provide consistent financial and medical support for children in the county.
The Delta variant is spreading in Kings County, public health officials say the best protection against the spread of the virus is vaccination and there are three main ways to get a shot in the area.
Public Health Director Ed Hill said after nine months of organizing vaccinations, the County has made it possible for any eligible person to get inoculated.
âThe analogy I use is if you were a football player, you wouldnât go out on the field without a helmet,â Hill said. âWhen it comes to protecting yourself and your loved ones, right now vaccines provide the greatest level of protection.â
Health officials said it was the largest vaccine allocation KCDPH had received since the vaccine rollout began.
After the initial shipment, KCDPH officials said the Janssen version will not be available for a couple of weeks, though they still expect to see an increase in vaccine allocation.
âWe are very excited to receive shipments of all three vaccines and are thankful to receive the single dose version, allowing even more people the opportunity to become fully vaccinated without having to return for a second dose,â said Darcy Pickens, assistant director of public health.
KCDPH said it began administering all three COVID-19 vaccines this week.
