The first scheduled trial in Christian Circuit Court since the pandemic began did not happen Monday morning when the alleged victim in the case failed to appear.
Court officials say trial was continued until September 20 for Travis Mayes, who allegedly shot Darrell Bateman at East Second and Vine in February of 2020.
Bateman had been subpoenaed to appear Monday, but did not show up.

Further proceedings were set for March 11 in the case against Travis Mayes, who is charged in the 2020 shooting of Darrell Bateman.
Mayes is typically represented by public defender Doug Moore, but he was unavailable for Friday’s hearing in Christian Circuit Court he had requested a hearing be set to review evidence and other matters, so Judge John Atkins set one for March 11.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jerad Smith was also standing in for Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen, who is the prosecutor in this case. Mayes, who is charged with first-degree assault, had been out on bond, but is now back in custody at the Christian County Jail.
