Why did Washington select safety Darrick Forrest with their 5th round draft pick?

Why did Washington select safety Darrick Forrest with their 5th round draft pick? Photo by Scott Cunningham /Getty Images Over the past few years, I have made a habit out of profiling late round draft picks, UDFAs and low-profile free agent signings on the Washington roster in May and June that quiet period of the NFL year between the draft and the start of training camp. Because I’ve done it pretty regularly, I get a sense for a player based on the quantity and type of information that can be found on him. For some really unlikely UDFAs, it can be difficult to find much more than a scouting report of the guy as a high school player and his college stats. As you move up through the rounds of the draft, there tends to be more and more written about players. When you get to the Chase Youngs and Trevor Lawrences of the NFL world, it wouldn’t take too long to find out their exact shoe size or what they eat for lunch on Wednesdays.

Perhaps more importantly, Rivera said he saw players digesting that information and applying it on the field.

McCain, 27, had visited Washington on Monday, four days after he had been released by the Miami Dolphins. His addition continues Washington s quest to bolster its secondary. It signed free-agent cornerback William Jackson III and drafted corner Benjamin St-Juste in the third round and strong safety Darrick Forrest in the fifth. But McCain can play free safety he started 23 games there over the past two seasons for Miami. The position was a trouble spot at times for Washington in 2020. It did not have a proven starter, with Troy Apke, Deshazor Everett and Jeremy Reaves all starting at some point last season. Washington also had signed veteran Sean Davis last offseason,

Prospect Spotlight: Who is Nelson Lokombo?

Prospect Spotlight: Who is Nelson Lokombo? Ron Rivera has the Super Bowl on his mind, and he is ready to look anywhere that he can find players to help him. The latest target is ball-hawking free safety Nelson Lokombo, who was drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League second overall in the 2021 CFL draft, which was held on May 4th. His draft position indicates that he is a pretty good player. Lokombo played three seasons at the University of Saskatchewan, where he became only the second player in Huskies history to be named the top defensive player i
