The high Easter road toll comes as no surprise to the New Zealand Automobile Association, which says the country has been a dangerous place to drive for at least the last seven years.
A woman involved in a crash on a dangerous West Auckland road is praising a surf lifesaver who held her injured neck until she could be taken to hospital. Kim Conway was driving herself and her husband home around 5.30pm on Easter Sunday when a car in the opposite direction sped into her lane “like a bat out of hell” to overtake another vehicle. To avoid a head-on collision and becoming an Easter road toll statistic, Conway veered left and crashed into a ditch, the car spinning.

PROGRESSIVE Liberal Party Leader Philip “Brave” Davis said he is “not concerned” about legal action brought against Peter Nygard in the United States.
He was asked during the PLP’s end of year press conference yesterday if he ever heard about misconduct by Nygard and if the PLP regrets accepting money from the fashion mogul.
Peter Nygard
“My position in respect to what I heard or not heard about him is that I’m more concerned about what this election is going to be about,” he said.
“I’m not concerned about a foreign action that has been brought against a foreign person who may have had an interest in the Bahamas. I’m concerned about the livelihood of Bahamians and the future of our Bahamians and that is what I will be about,” Mr Davis said.

PROGRESSIVE Liberal Party leader Philip “Brave” Davis said allegations against Peter Nygard in a new indictment “are extremely serious and disturbing and should be pursued to the full extent of the law”.
“We hope the women involved receive justice,” he said in a Twitter post yesterday afternoon.
The comment came after the Free National Movement released press statements accusing the PLP of being silent on the matter. Mr Nygard was a benefactor of the PLP for years.
“For too long Philip ‘Brave’ Davis, Fred Mitchell and the PLP’s senior leadership sat quietly saying nothing as troubling allegations swirled around Peter Nygard,” the FNM said.
