Placer County Sheriff, community group want more transparency with body cameras

AUBURN, Calif. In 2022, nearly 300 deputies for the Placer County Sheriff s Office should be trained and equipped with body cameras.
The move comes after the Placer County Board of Supervisors approved $4.8 million to fund the program, a first for the department. Sheriff s Office spokesperson Angela Musallam said the department sees body cameras as necessary for all deputies and officers in the department. She added that the department has looked at the Motorola V300 body camera as the model they would like to have.

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A third vaccine is being tested in Northern California but UC Davis Health officials are putting out a special call for specific participants. They want minority groups hit hardest by COVID-19 to participate, including the Latino community, Native Americans and African Americans.
Virginia Hedrick, Executive Director for the Consortium for Urban Indian Health, has made it her mission to raise awareness about the COVID-19 impact on the Native American community since the beginning of the pandemic. Now, she’s finding hope with a new vaccine in the works called Norovax, as UC Davis Health wants to focus on Native Americans.

ROCKLIN, Calif. Outside Destiny Christian Church in Rocklin Sunday morning, protesters with Allies for Black Lives-Placer County gathered to highlight the church’s ongoing defiance of public health orders.
Counter-protesters gathered as well. They said they came in support of the church after learning of the planned protest.
Allies for Black Lives-Placer County said they also came out to protest comments they said were made online by Pastor Greg Fairrington and his wife, comments they called homophobic and hateful
Proud Boys Rally Outside California Church Defying COVID Restrictions

Members of the far-right group Proud Boys on Sunday were seen among those showing support for a California church which has refused to close amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Protests and counter-protests took place outside the Destiny Church in Rocklin around the church s continuing defiance of public health orders by hosting services indoors, something they have been doing for several months, even as cases of the virus continue to spiral out of control.
On one side were people holding Black Lives Matter and Trans Pride flags, while on the other side were members of the Proud Boys and Donald Trump supporters who had come out to defend the church.

ROCKLIN, Calif. Members of the community in Rocklin felt the best way to erase hate is by spreading love. And that s exactly what they did on Saturday afternoon by writing messages of peace, love and solidarity.
The walkway in Sonora park looks drastically different than it did earlier in the week. Last Sunday, park visitors were greeted by racist graffiti written on the pathway separating the park from Rock Creek Elementary School. The graffiti consisted of words that are derogatory to the Black community.
