The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Foundation awarded grants in excess of $88,000 in support of 29 programs that benefit children and families in the region on April 22, 2021.

The Foundation, a 501(c)3 overseen by a volunteer board with support from the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT, fulfills its mission to enhance and enrich education and economic opportunities for children and families through generous donations from the business community.
Annual fundraising events, the Holiday Gala and Bowl-a-thon, were put on hold for 2020. In 2021, the Foundation is pleased to have the support of sponsors through the Every Month is a Holiday campaign, with year-long media sponsor The Day and creative support from Miranda Creative and Eighty Six Media.
“COVID kind of took us for a whirl,” Dionne said.
On Wednesday, the yearly toy charity kicked off its distribution in Killingly, Norwich and New London, to ensure children in need have a happy holiday. As people couldn’t wait inside the distribution venues due to COVID-19 precautions, people lined up outside the venues to get toys for their children this holiday season.
In Norwich, Dionne was the first person lined up at 5:50 a.m., and there were about 80 people wrapped around the building waiting to get in when the doors opened at about 9 a.m.
“We’ll get warm when we’re done,” Dionne said.
Tommy Toy Fund distribution is this week. Here s what you need to know.
UPDATE: Due to the weather forecast for significant snowfall beginning Wednesday night and continuing into Thursday changes are being made to the Tommy Toy Fun distribution schedule.
Distribution at the Norwich and Killingly sites will now take place on Wednesday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. No distribution will take place on Thursday. Distribution will then resume on Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The New London distribution site will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday.

Ahead of the impending winter storm, the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut is changing the distribution schedule for the Tommy Toy Fund, which provides toys for children in low-income families.
Distributions will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at both the New London site at 374 Broad St. and the Norwich site at 101 Water St. All Thursday distributions have been canceled. Distributions Friday will be held in New London from 9 a.m. to noon and in Norwich from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; families registered with the New London site may visit the Norwich site after noon on Friday.
