Alexander Walker-Griffin is finishing his last days at Contra Costa College, a community college in Northern California. Only one thing was standing in his way: student debt.
Then he got an email.
âTo be quite honest with you, I was a little confused and a little bit concerned. I was like, is this a scam?â said Walker-Griffin.
It wasnât a scam, and he wasnât the only student who got the email. More than 60 students received an email from the collegeâs foundation saying their debt had been cleared.

SF Bar and Gym Owners Get Psyched For Yellow Tier Reopenings This Week
Things aren t going to look radically different in San Francisco after the city enters the Yellow tier this week for the first time since October. But some businesses are going to be popping back open that have been closed for over a year.
As reported earlier, the move into Yellow territory on Tuesday will mean that SF health officials will lift the next set of restrictions on Friday, May 7. The changes include allowing bars to open indoors without food at 25% capacity, and gyms and fitness studios can raise their capacity limits to 50%. All of this means more of a reason for places to reopen that have been on pause since the fall.

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors is poised to approve the second tranche of Measure A funding on Tuesday $350 million for the construction of affordable housing.
In 2016, more than two-thirds of county voters approved Measure A a $950 million housing bond with the goal to create 120 new affordable housing developments over the next decade.
So far, county supervisors have allocated upward of $533 million for 34 housing developments totaling 2,969 new apartments and 618 renovated units.
Of those 34 projects, four have been completed; 217 of the 2,969 new apartments will be occupied this spring and summer; and 332 of the 618 refurbished units are occupied as well.
