Another resignation, but two new appointees finally fill Iowa City TRC
IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) - The Iowa City Ad Hoc Truth and Reconciliation Commission has a full nine members for the first time since March 8.
Layana Navarre-Jackson became the fifth commissioner to resign from the TRC on Friday April 9. Counting facilitator Jesse Case s resignation, there have now been six in all.
Unlike many of the previous resignations, Navarre-Jackson did not cite arguments or dysfunction as a reason for resigning; rather not having enough time in her schedule.
Christine Nobiss and Daphney Daniel were appointed Monday morning to fill the last two vacancies. Three other members were appointed last Tuesday.

On Friday, Commissioner Layana Navarre-Jackson resigned, citing work schedule and family commitments. While Navarre-Jackson s resignation will not go into effect until the TRC s meeting on April 23, the council went ahead and found a replacement Monday morning. Daphney Daniel will fill her vacancy.
Commissioner appointments last until June 30, 2022.

Iowa City Councilmember Janice Weiner, who worked on chartering the TRC, said she is hopeful its new version will come with some stability in membership. I don t have a crystal ball, but I do think that everybody is relaunching from a different place, whether they ve been on the TRC or are new, Weiner said.

After appointing someone who requested that their name be taken out of consideration for the post, and another member resigning, the Iowa City City Council appointed two new members to the city’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
The commission had been suspended after a contentious few months. Their last meeting ended with chair Royceann Porter, Vice-Chair T’Shailyn Harrington, commissioner Anthony Curran and, eventually, commissioner Raneem Hamad resigning.
Last week, the Council unanimously selected Wangui Gathua, David Borger Germann, Chastity Dillard and Clinton Johnson to join the commission out of field of 27 applicants. Germann was appointed but due to what the city says is a software glitch, they were unaware that he had taken his name out of consideration for the position.
