Harvesters Community Food Network Topeka food pickup location moved

A mobile food distribution site that operates once a month in Topeka is temporarily moving to a new spot. The mobile food pantry sponsored by the Central Topeka Turnaround Team and Topeka Bible Church that typically sets up once a month outside the Stormont Vail Events Center will instead temporarily be serving food from the former Gordmans parking lot, 3245 S.W. Topeka Blvd. According to Delores Smith, a turnaround team volunteer who leads the monthly food distribution effort, they had to make the move because the events center is being used as a health care hub to administer COVID-19 vaccinations. She thanked Henry McClure, of McClure Real Estate, for helping her team of volunteers secure the parking lot outside the former Gordmans.

Drive-in services, livestreaming among church options for Christmas

Although this Christmas will be different from any in history, there will be ways to celebrate.  More than any other time of year, Americans visit a church or attend a religious celebration at Christmastime. Polls show that about 60% of Americans attend some type of service in honor of the Christian holiday each year.   Due to the pandemic, many local residents are either out of the habit of attending regular services or may be uncertain where to safely attend a service.  The recent spike in COVID-19 cases won’t completely shut down the spirit of Christmas, however. Churches across Topeka, already accustomed to adapting their plans and thinking creatively, are making sure options are available this year.
