Neosho Schools approve softball field renovations Neosho Daily News On Apr. 26 the Neosho board of education held a special meeting that discussed a proposal for renovations to the high school softball field that came to $450,178. Superintendent Dr. Jim Cummins said that after the baseball field dedication ceremony earlier this month, he was approached by Jim O’Dell, of O’Dell Trucking LLC in Neosho, about raising funds for softball field renovations similar to the recent renovations made to the baseball field. “I do it for the girls, but it’s not just the softball program,” said O’Dell over the phone. “O’Dell Trucking, we donated for the turfing of the football field. We’re with the baseball and softball field (renovations). We’re for the kids in the community and this is a way we can give back for the kids, plus I have three granddaughters that play softball.”

Neosho Schools fill vacant seat, approve health care renewal Neosho Daily News The Neosho School District held a special meeting on Apr. 26 to address the vacant board of education seat, the renewal of health insurance and a proposal for the softball field. First, the board discussed the letters of interest submitted by community members for the open seat following the resignation of David Steele. Steele stepped down due to other obligations and at the Apr. 5 work session, the board decided to accept letters of interest from the community for the seat. Acy Hartsock, James Keezer, Terra Oxendine, Jenny Spiva and Mark Taylor were members of the community who had submitted letters of interest.

Neosho Schools reorganize board, recognize programs Neosho Daily News The Neosho Board of Education met on Apr. 19, reorganizing the board after the recent elections, recognizing some of the districts programs and their successes and getting an update on the Performing Arts Center (PAC) First, with the same number of candidates running for the number of open seats, Steffen Wiest and Dan Haskins were sworn in again as members of the board. Then; Jonathan Russell was elected board president, Wiest was elected as vice president and Haskins was elected as secretary. Next, the district recognized several programs and their students for their achievements this year that included the FFA program, choir, band and the wrestling team.

Neosho Election Results from April 6 Neosho Daily News The unofficial results for the general municipal election in Newton County, Missouri, with all 24 precincts reporting, are in. During the November elections, the citizens of Neosho approved changing the number of City Council members from five to seven and established four wards. Of the five current council members, Mayor Carmin Allen and Councilman Tom Workman’s terms both end in Apr. 2021 and neither filed for reelection. The openings are in Ward 1 for a three-year term, Ward 2 for a two-year term, Ward 3 for a two-year term and a general At Large opening for a three-year term that will be voted on by all four voting precincts.

Neosho Board of Education accepts Steele resignation, updates from work session Neosho Daily News The Neosho Board of Education met for a work session on Apr. 5; formally accepting the resignation of board member David Steele, receiving updates on the facilities projects and incoming Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds and approving bids. Replacing Steele Outgoing board member David Steele, who stepped down due to other obligations, accepted a plaque from board president Kim Wood thanking him for his service at the Apr. 5 work session. At the end of the meeting, the board discussed their options when it came to replacing Steele with Wood stating that the last time there was a resignation on the board that they accepted letters of interest from the community and suggested they do so again.
