ELLWOOD CITY Dan Parson said the first day of kindergarten is often an emotional day for both parents or guardians and their children.
He said it is emotional for the children to be separated from their parents, not knowing where they are, and is emotional for the adults leaving their children and having them go into a new situation without them.
Therefore, Parson told the Ellwood City Area School Board Thursday, the kindergarten team at North Side Primary has come up with a new plan for the next school year. Parson was interim principal at the school and was officially hired as permanent principal during the meeting.
GREEN RIVER The Green River High School Speech and Debate team had new challenges this year with the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic still effecting the way in which they could compete.
Despite competitions being held virtually, the team remained competitive, taking a second-place finish at the 2021 3A state competition and third at the 2021 National Qualifiers. Several students will move on to compete at Nationals, which will take place online
from June 13-19.
“The goal at the beginning of the season was to ensure the future of the team, while still maintaining our competitive edge. Since all competitions were virtual, the motivation to compete was changed for many kids,” head coach Dan Parson said. “Without a live audience, students could not feed on the energy in the room. Nonverbal aspects of communication were inhibited. Basically the dynamics of persuasive speaking, acting and debate were dramatically changed.”
Buffalo MillsDavid John Paul, 73 of Buffalo Mills, passed away peacefully going to his eternal home on March 4, 2021, while surrounded by his family at his home.
David was born Aug. 30, 1947, in Cumberland, Md., a son of the late Walter Edward Paul and Leona Luwela (Eversole) Paul.
David married Mildred Louise Caldwell Paul on June 27,1969. She preceded him in death on August 31, 2009. David and Mildred spent 40 years serving the Lord side by side.
David was blessed to have found Joy Carpenter Paul to share the remaining years with. David married Joy Carpenter Paul on June 23, 2012. David and Joy spent eight years serving the Lord and enjoying retirement together.

During his drive to the Baltimore Ravens headquarters some days, Marlon McLean will hear a song come on the radio and begin to look for a place to pull over. He’ll stop the car, bring up the Shazam app on his phone and note the artist and title.
Then he’ll send a text to Dan Parson, the assistant to head coach John Harbaugh, with a suggestion for the playlists that blare over the speakers at Ravens practices.
“I’ll say, ‘Can you take a listen to this song to see if the head coach would be ok with it?’” McLean said in a phone interview.
