gbacon@observertoday.com The city of Jamestown appears to be the top local municipal receiver of federal funds from the newly passed legislation to help with COVID relief, getting more money than Chautauqua County. Over the weekend, the U.S. Senate passed the American Rescue Plan Act, a $1.9 trillion economic stimulus package, proposed by President Joe Biden. The legislation will return to the House of Representatives before it can be signed by the president and be enacted. According to figures provided by Sen. Chuck Schumer, $12.6 billion is going to New York state governments. Jamestown will receive $29.87 million, while Chautauqua County will receive $24.61 million and the city of Dunkirk will receive $11.59 million.

Pomfret, Fredonia water talks continuing | News, Sports, Jobs

jward@observertoday.com A water contract between the town of Pomfret and village of Fredonia water remains up in the air as of this week’s Town Board meeting. “I spoke with the (Fredonia) mayor (Doug Essek) at length Tuesday evening because in their last meeting they did discuss it, but they said that the changes that we put in to the contract amendments were never discussed, even though we discussed those at our last negotiation session,” Pomfret Supervisor Dan Pacos said. “I had sent those to the mayor and to the attorneys in an email, so we did discuss that and the mayor did agree that we had talked about all those.”
