BRYAN, Texas Protesters lined the streets of Texas Avenue Saturday in front of the Bryan Police Department. Black Lives Matter BCS and members of the Neal Park Potluck organized the protest to shine a light on what they said is racism within the Bryan Police Department.
The Black in Bryan 17/24/43 protest was organized to highlight two purposes, according to information released about the protest Friday. The group wanted to mark the 10-year anniversary of the shooting of Johnnie Harris Jr. Harris, who is a Black man, was running from police when he was shot by an on-duty officer. He was not armed and the officer did not face charges in the case.

Anchor Lindsay Liepman stopped by Tiny Hope Village outside of Hearne where they just broke ground. Life on the streets is something Dan Kiniry has experienced firsthand. I chose to be homeless for a couple of years and it taught me a lot about feeling shut out by the community and not knowing where you re going to sleep at night. Homelessness no longer became acceptable to us, said Dan.

HEARNE, TX â On the outskirts of Hearne lies seven acres, which is home to Tiny Hope Village.
Over the course of the last three years, executive director Dan Kiniry has been raising money in an effort to create a community of support, and tiny homes, for those experiencing homelessness throughout the Brazos Valley.
âOver three years ago, we started the nonprofit, and all we had was the idea of building a community of homes for folks who have been chronically homeless, and we started asking folks for money to support,â Kiniry said.

In the Brazos Valley, a relatively young non-profit organization, Tiny Hope Village, is hoping the Brazos Valley will lend a hand to their mission this season.
