A member of the selection panel for the Arts Foundation Springboard mentoring programme says it was exciting to see the talent coming through.
Nigel Borrell says on the scheme, which teams an emerging artist, performer, writer or musician with someone senior in their field.
He says it was tricky picking and matching just seven people from more than 100 applicants. An exciting one at the same time because you get to see the talent and you get to see ways to support them through this programme and by partnering them with a mentor that is really going to give them that boost and that confidence and an insight into their experience as artists and as creative people that is used to help those young ones, he says.

The Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi have today announced
their 2021 Springboard awardees – seven artists, each at a
formative stage of their career, with outstanding potential
in a variety of arts disciplines. Along with a $15,000 gift,
each recipient has been matched (with cupid-like
consideration) to a senior artist mentor from the Arts
Foundation alumni of Laureates, Icons, New Generation,
residency or Fellowship recipients. Mentors also receive a
$5,000 koha for their time.
Now in its second year,
the Arts Foundation Springboard programme is a financial,
mentoring and resource support system designed to have a
significant impact on the recipient’s growth and

An Auckland transgender activist and artist is calling for an apology from the National Rugby League (NRL) team Wests Tigers after unsafe social media posts were made by two of its players.
Self-proclaimed mother of the voguing group House of Iman Jaycee Tanuvasa featured on the cover of the Herald s Viva magazine along with fellow members including Antony Sua to celebrate Auckland Pride Festival last month. It was seen as a significant moment for the queer Pasifika community.

A budding new designer from Hastings has had her dress worn on an international supermodel, photographed professionally and published in a New Zealand leading fashion magazine.
Viva Magazine released its Coming Home to Aotearoa issue in December which included a spread of Hawke s Bay supermodel Lilian Sumner in one of EIT graduate Felicity Potae s creations.
