CANTON – St. Lawrence County legislators voted to hire a recruitment firm to assist with finding a permanent public health director.
They took the action during a Monday, April 26 special full board meeting.
The department is currently led by interim Director Jolene Munger, who took over after former director Dana McGuire resigned at the end of March.
The resolution says the county will hire Axelon Services, which operates an office in Massena, with an additional expenditure of between $19,857 and $24,117. The salary for the new director could range between $97,933 to $120,851.
The resolution also notes that the county has spent $4,000 so far advertising locally, and regionally in Syracuse.

CANTON, N.Y. (WWNY) - There are hundreds of COVID-19 vaccine appointments available in St. Lawrence County Friday.
The county is having a Moderna vaccination clinic from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence University’s Leithead Fieldhouse.
Public Health director Dana McGuire says the county has about 700 slots left to fill.
Anyone who is eligible can sign up for an appointment. There’s now an expanded list of essential workers eligible, as well as people who are 60 and older and people with underlying health conditions.
