Ashley Rouse was terrified when she first started receiving media requests from major publications featuring Black-owned businesses last June. The founder and CEO of Brooklyn-based Trade Street Jam Co. says her team saw “insane growth” between January and June, with monthly sales skyrocketing from $1,500 to $80,000, and she was hanging on by a thread to keep up.
“At the beginning of June, I was 8 months pregnant and swollen all over,” Rouse recalls. “I was up day and night fulfilling packages with my husband, mom, and a team of two, trying desperately to keep up with these blessings that I had prayed for for so long. But I. Was. Tired!”

Fahadh Faasil, Soubin Shahir and Darshana Rajendran starrer Malayalam film Irul has released today, April 2, on Netflix. The film is helmed by Naseef Yusuf Izuddin and it marks his directorial debut. Irul is a mystery crime thriller featuring three protagonists, who are on a mission. It is the only Malayalam film that has released directly on OTT while others have hit the big screen. Well, Irul is out for the audience and the film is getting mixed response from the audience on Twitter.

Black Restaurant Week is presenting its inaugural campaign in the Northwest region, with participation in food trucks, sweets and more.
Today’s feature is Nana’s Southern Kitchen in Kent. It’s named after Todd Minor’s great-grandmother Myrtle Henderson who was born in Goshen, Virginia, and later moved to Connecticut. As a mother and grandmother, she cooked and served family and friends all the familiar Southern foods you can now find in the restaurant.
Nana’s has also supported the community, including their annual tradition of serving 400 meals on Christmas Day for free.
