Whaley Bridge hit the headlines in the summer of 2019, when the Toddbrook Reservoir dam was in danger of collapse. Now that life is returning to relative normality, we can look towards exploring the beautiful areas surrounding the town.

This walk begins with a gentle stroll along a canal path to Bugsworth Basin, a historic former inland port. The route then progresses through Buxworth before ascending on a zig-zag course to Eccles Pike to embrace far-reaching views over a landscape of High Peak hills.
Construction works has begun on a new accessible pathway linking Todd Brook to Netteswell Pond. The new 800 metre path will replace a current muddy and uneven route. The new path will run alongside Todd Brook behind Stony Wood and St Mark’s School connecting to an existing cycle track along Second Avenue. Currently the route is not accessible all year round particularly to residents with disabilities. Accessibility improvements around Netteswell Pond will also be made with a new path constructed around part of the pond and resurfacing works which will all link to two fully accessible fishing platforms. The works are expected to take around three weeks.
